March Hits and Shits
A compilation of all of the products and things I've loved this month vs the ones that have done me dirty.
As March comes to a close it’s time for our first edition of Hits and Shits. Hits and Shits is a monthly round-up of items and concepts that have either done right by me or done me dirty this month. Think about it as part consumer report and part mental health toolkit. This post will be longer than future posts as it will include products I’ve been using from January through now.
In full transparency, some of the links for my hits are affiliate links. This does not change my opinion of the products and I do not take sponsorship money for them. It just simply helps me financially to continue to create more content. :) You can support me by shopping through the links if you feel so inclined.
With that out of the way… let us get into it!
P.s. I am providing free posts for subscribers for the next couple weeks to give you a taste of the content that will eventually be behind a creative paywall. If you want to support me through a paid subscription I greatly appreciate you. Creating content takes time, energy, and money which is why I have a paid subscription option. Choosing a paid subscription also gets you access to things like subscriber-only livestreams, videos, and more! If you want to see more of what’s included check out this post here.
The Hits
Letting go and letting God - I’ve been trying my hardest to release what’s out of my control this month and reminding myself that I am only responsible for myself and my reactions to things. It takes practice but I can honestly say it’s an incredibly freeing way to live. I’m normally a sponge for other people’s emotions and hardships but I’m releasing what is not mine and it feels good.
Generic Yoga Ball - This is my favorite item of the month and I’ve had it for approximately a week. I’ve been using this in place of my desk chair and have already noticed a significant reduction in my back, leg, and hip pain. It’s amazing for folks with ADHD as well as it fully allows me to bounce, move, and fidget as needed. Buy it here.
Generic Foam Roller - I had forgotten how much I absolutely love to foam roll. Releasing your fascia is so important, especially for us chronically ill baddies, and this is one of the best ways to do so at home. You can grab one for an affordable price here.
CAPCUT - A big ol’ hit for me dog. My friend Beck (@manfattan) recommended I use this for auto-captions on my videos and this editing software is a dream. When I found out they had a PC download I cried. It’s a godsend considering all the issues I’ve had editing in the past. Check it out here. It’s available for app store download on your phone as well.
CeraVe Makeup Removing Cleanser Balm - Now when I saw the price of this at checkout I said girrrrrrrl you better werk! (To clarify the price isn’t bad it’s just a tiny pot of product for the price.) Thankfully it delivered. This cleanser is the PERFECT makeup remover. It’s silky and soft, washes away hard to remove eye makeup so easily, and genuinely washes off without leaving any residue. This is a must-have for your two-step cleansing routine. Buy it here.
Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant - This is honestly a holy grail product for me. I will love and use this until the day I die. I have larger pores that get clogged easily. This BHA works so well without drying out my skin. Helps me to get all the excess gunk out of my pores and leaves me feeling fresh and clean. Buy it here.
The CosRx Snail Mucin line - I absolutely love this line. I wouldn’t necessarily use it daily but I use it very frequently. It can be a little heavy on some skin types so I would keep that in mind. However, it’s done a great job of helping my skin remain balanced and hydrated over this winter. Grab a travel size/trial size kit of all the products here.
Next Of Us Moisture Lock Oil - If you want a hair oil that will fully absorb and not leave you looking greasy AF this is it. Plus it’s incredibly affordable and available at Walmart. I use it nearly every day. Buy it here.
As I Am Restore and Repair Spray - This product is a must have for my textured hair babes. It’s a perfect way to refresh second or third day hair and has the added bonus of repairing properties with its black castor oil. Again, the price is great and it’s available at Walmart. Grab a 2 pack here.
As I Am Co-Wash - I’ve been using this product for 6 months now and can attest that it is the best conditioner to have ever touched my hair. Moisturizes, contains frizz, and doesn’t leave heavy build-up or residue. A must-have at a great price point and is widely accessible through Walmart. Stock up here.
O'Food Chung Jung One Korean Crispy Mix - Huge hit if you like Korean pancakes, tempura, etc. This pancake mix is cccccrispy. It’s hands down the cronchiest mix I’ve used and I will literally never buy another unless I’m absolutely forced to. Buy it here.
Natural Armor Weed Spray - Now I know this is a strange one to include but down here weeds grow fast and furious. I’ve never liked using weed sprays because they’re yucky but I’m at a family owned house and need to respect what they desire. As a result, I searched for a pet safe, human safe, environment safe weed spray and found this. It works so incredibly well all while containing safe ingredients. Just know your yard will smell like vinegar for a few days after use. But it here.
Chefs Path Food Storage Containers - I’m on a mission to reduce my food waste and save my money and the environment in doing so. A huge part of that mission is storing my food properly to avoid spoiling, bugs, etc. This set of air tight food containers was not only super affordable but is genuinely air tight. I’ve bought other sets in the past which have advertised being able to seal and let me down. This one just genuinely works. It’s not fancy or aesthetic but it does what I want it to. Buy it here.
The Shits
Overconsumption of media - If there’s one thing that I do often it’s dissociate while scrolling or watching TV. It leaves me feeling overstimulated, out of balance, and depressed because I’m not actually dealing with my emotions or the mental space I’m in. It’s a massive shit and I’m drop kicking this behavior into another dimension this next month with my dopamine detox. (Which you can read about here.)
CosRx Low PH Morning Cleanser - Huge shit. The product advertises that it is non-drying and I’m here to tell you they’re lying. This shit will strip your skin and leave you dryer than your 98-year-old grandma’s vagina. Don’t use it.
The WD 1 TB External HD - This is a massive shit for me. It corrupts if you look at it wrong and calls you bad names to your face. It corrupted and lost me all of my files from the past several years including the majority of my photos of Indi. Massive flop. Huge L.
Premier Pro and Premier Rush - These have to be the absolute WORST video editing software options I’ve had the misfortune of trying. Between crashing my computer regularly to quitting mid-project and not saving to straight up refusing to export a video because the stars aren’t aligned properly it’s a certified piece of shit.
Ion Humidity Defying Serum - I honestly don’t know what I was thinking when I purchased this. It’s humidity-defying because it coats your hair in literal black oil from the depths of our Earth. Using this will literally ruin your hair and call for a rescue clean up from the Dawn team. Do not waste your money. I’d rather go through life with everyone calling me Ms. Frizzle than put this demon product anywhere near my locks.
I hope you enjoyed this post and found some new products to try out. A final reminder that these are things that work for me personally and might not work for you. Especially with beauty products, there’s a huge curve on what will work for you vs what will work for another person. Keep that in mind. Don’t forget you can also get samples of products at most Ulta’s and Sephora’s. :)
Until next time!
