April 2023 Recap
Dopamine detox, job interviews (and offers), and figuring out my life and how to adult again.
This month started with a bang with my commitment to start my dopamine detox. I cold turkey quit cannabis, Instagram, and video games. My three main vices. (If you missed the how and why check out this post.) This month was really transformative for me as a result.
I’ve talked briefly about how I’ve been not feeling myself for the past few years. My mental health has won and I’ve really been a shell of the person I once was making it hard to show up offline and online. This month really shook the fog from my brain and got me re-focused on the better things like moving forward and finding gratitude and presence in the now.
I know it’s so cliche but there is so much gold in mindfulness and connecting with the present moment without distraction and I had simply not allowed myself to be present in quite some time. It was uncomfortable at first but soon the discomfort turned to ease and ease to pleasure.

April’s Noteworthy Moment
There are a few to mention here. I couldn’t pick just one.
My sister and her kiddos came to visit. It was my first time seeing them since last December. It was so nice to get some sister time together and to be able to see my nieces and nephew. They bring me joy.
Elijah and I spent our Stormy Easter on the coast watching the ocean rage and picking up trash. I always love going on little drives. The ocean is honestly my favorite when it’s storming out.
I got a job offer… and I accepted! (More to come about this moment in a later post. I don’t want to share too much yet since we’re still in the beginning stages of processing my employment.)
My parents and Elijah and I went up to St. Augustine to eat at a restaurant they love and poke around the town.
Elijah and I went to a brewery in town and got way too wasted off of a couple of drinks. Plus there was a bar cat. (Don’t worry we didn’t drive home.)
April Gratitude
I am grateful for my ability to eat and provide my family with a table full of nourishing food.
I am grateful for my resilience and ability to continue to heal and grow.
I am grateful that tax season is over and I actually got a refund this year!
I am grateful for this new job opportunity and to be going to work for a company that values me and is happy to help me grow.
I am grateful for Elijah and his ability to ride the waves of my emotional self while I went through the first couple weeks of the “detox.”
April Monthly Reflection
I’ve been sharing my monthly reflections weekly (that’s a mouthful) so I’ll keep this short and sweet.
I am more capable than I give myself credit for.
Mental wellness is a h a b i t. It requires practice.
I’m actually more than okay without weed. Smoking after the challenge made me realize that while I still enjoy it it doesn’t add as much to my life as I thought it did.

May Goals and Intentions
In the month of May I intend to practice mindfulness daily. I intend to focus on connecting with the present moment and allowing life to flow.
Goals for the month:
Declutter and pack my space up.
Spend as little $$ as possible. No new clothes, gadgets, makeup, etc.
Make sure each plate of food I eat contains at least half of the bulk in veggies.
Stretch 3 times a week minimum. Ideally for just a couple minutes a day.
I hope you enjoyed this post. There is a lot going on in May for me so I might not be as active as this previous month but I’m going to aim to get out four posts minimum. For those of you who have followed me over here from Instagram thank you so much and ILY! Thank you to everyone here for wanting to be a part of the community.
If there are any posts you’d like to see in particular or questions you might have feel free to leave them in a comment below!
Until next time, friend!

Roo
